Meet Jacksonville TeamLogic IT Franchise Owner Bruce Eichman
Engineer and tech professional wanted to eliminate corporate mandates and work directly with clients —TeamLogic IT helped make it happen
Working in technology was right where Bruce Eichman wanted to be. The corporate life wasn’t exactly the right fit, however, so when he decided to fly solo he opted to become a TeamLogic IT franchise owner.
“I worked for Oracle for 13 years doing enterprise-level service and found that a lot of policies and procedures were getting in the way of the relationship between me and the customer,” Bruce says. “When I began, there was a lot of latitude that I could offer customers, such as extra services, to keep the relationship strong. As time went on there were more constraints, and I was losing my decision-making ability, which I found very contradicting. So, I decided to strike out on my own.”
Prior experience provides valuable insights
Bruce holds a bachelor’s degree in engineering technology, and during a career with the U.S. Navy, he earned a master’s degree in national security and strategic studies at the Naval War College, then followed that with another master’s degree, this one in business administration from Central Michigan University. He also holds a Ph.D. in IT organization and management from Capella University. All that education has helped in his careers working for other people and laid a firm foundation for owning his own business as well.
“I knew how to provide onsite and remote IT services, and also to design, support and provide maintenance to custom applications,” he says. “So, when we opened in May 2015 I was ready to go from an operational perspective. The challenge was going to be getting the word out and building a book of business. TeamLogic IT had the model, though, so I knew what steps to take.”
He credits the corporate team with assistance, all the way from the initial training up to and through providing marketing and promotion materials for both in-person calls and online outreach.
“They do an excellent job, and between the guidance and training early on to the webinars and other services, it really is all you can eat,” he says. “The only limitation I have is finding the time to go through all that’s provided to me.”
Client mix is varied and evolving
One thing he wasn’t sure of was the type of client base his TeamLogic IT franchise would build. His territory, like all those set up by TeamLogic, holds a widely varied mix of businesses. Turns out that attorneys want, and need, the value provided by managed IT services and other TeamLogic IT differentiators.
“We’ve got client companies ranging from three to 100 users,” Bruce says. “I thought I’d focus on healthcare and still have an interest in growing that sector, but lately we’ve been getting a lot of business from lawyers. That’s because we’re doing good work for some firms, and they keep referring us to others. It’s a close-knit business community here, and so when you provide a valuable service word gets around. That’s been very positive for us.”
Going forward he hopes to continue growing managed IT services, but also handle more immediate systems repair and maintenance work that comes through the door because it can open the way to more possibilities as well.
“Building that base of managed IT is great for reliable income, as well as a steady stream of business with customers,” he says. “Sales is challenging for me, as I’m principally a technical guy, so I will continue to work on that as well. But owning a TeamLogic IT franchise has let me open a business that I didn’t have to build from scratch, that had a model that was proven to deliver. Things are looking really good for us.”
TeamLogic IT is the technology franchise small and medium-sized businesses increasingly rely on for turnkey support. TeamLogic IT’s managed IT services contracts give clients peace of mind around their technology needs and provide franchise owners with a steady, predictable revenue stream. The company now serves a wide and growing variety of clients in every business sector, from tourism and hospitality to healthcare, legal and accounting. Along the way, TeamLogic IT has grown to more than 100 locations around North America and continues to expand in both new and existing markets.
