Look for that kind of energy and enthusiasm from Miguel and his wife, Cynthia, as they open Puerto Rico’s first TeamLogic IT franchise and bring managed IT services and more to the island’s robust business community.

How long have you been a TeamLogic IT owner?

Our brand-new TeamLogic IT franchise in Puerto Rico will open late in 2014, or in January 2015. Before this, I spent 25 years working in the pharmaceutical industry, 20 of these directly involved in IT responsibilities across the United States, Puerto Rico and Latin America.

Why did you want to change careers?

The pharmaceutical environment in Puerto Rico suffered a lot due to mergers and acquisitions, taxation and other changes. When my job was eliminated as part of a restructuring, I started thinking about my skills and experience. Colleagues at work had frequently recognized my focus on customer service; my focus was always “gain and retain” when it came to customers. I noticed that in reality, I always worked as if I was running my own business. That’s why I decided to explore doing it for real and becoming a business owner.

What attracted you to the technology franchise business, and to TeamLogic IT?

It was my wife, Cynthia, who convinced me to explore technology opportunities.

When I read about the TeamLogic IT franchise concept and the focus on managed IT services, it really caught my attention. I had spent the last 10 years negotiating and managing contracts and services provided by global IT service providers. I definitely know what to expect from a managed service provider, and the pros and cons of the model.

During my investigation I noted that TeamLogic IT was ranked No. 45 on MSPmentor.net’s Top 501 Managed Services Providers. That’s a big deal! In addition to that, TeamLogic IT was named a 2012, 2013, and 2014 Top Technology Franchise by Franchise Business Review. That’s when I decided to reach out and learn more.

The corporate team’s professionalism, knowledge and experience, plus the excellent feedback provided by business owners, were key in our decision. All these great people can’t be wrong — there’s got to be something good going on at TeamLogic IT!

Why do small and medium-sized businesses need your help? What are their challenges, and how do you meet them?

Businesses need an advisor to help them identify technology options that can make them more productive. It’s as simple as that! This is not about having the latest and greatest or selling them as much as we can, but rather it’s about treating our client businesses with respect, the way we like to be treated. Participate in business planning meetings, develop a technology roadmap together, and then help them plan and understand budget requirements and the corresponding return on investment. That’s what I’m planning on doing!

What personality or values do you think are needed to succeed as a TeamLogic IT owner?

A strong focus on customer service and integrity are essential. Although there’s competition, I’m convinced that if we focus on providing high-quality service, many doors will open. Take advantage of every opportunity to learn something new and educate clients — be persistent!

How large is the opportunity for your business to grow?

The tools, methodology, solutions and extended team are there. I recognize we need to learn how to use them to our best advantage. Once that’s done, the opportunity for the business to grow should be huge. But learning comes first.

How do the tools offered by TeamLogic IT help you market your business and serve your customers?

The capability of being able to provide a 24/7 help desk and Network Operations Center services right from the start is a huge advantage. Business continuity solutions, VoIP, mailbox hosting and on-site support availability also really solidify the business offer. When you add the monthly report of services provided and quarterly meetings to review and update the technology roadmap and plan budget needs, it’s a package you simply can’t beat!

Would you recommend a TeamLogic IT franchise to someone else?

Yes. The tools, technology, business model and the focus on continually researching new technology make the difference. Not to mention the power of the network. I’m convinced of the value and the benefits of owning a TeamLogic IT franchise.
