Meet TeamLogic IT Franchise’s Rookie of the Year

Out of the gate and off to a great start, this franchise owner in San Diego has found ways to grow market share and build revenues

When Michael Schwartz, Evan Weiss and Abather Al-Juboori opened their TeamLogic IT franchise in San Diego in October 2016, they knew there was a yearly Owners’ Summit. What they didn’t know is that a year later, Mike would be on stage at the 2017 event accepting “Rookie of the Year” honors and applause from his fellow franchise owners.

“I thought there might be a possibility, but really didn’t expect it,” says Michael, a former government IT contractor. “Nonetheless, I was very pleased to achieve this kind of recognition from the TeamLogic IT network. It was a big honor.”

TeamLogic IT checked all the boxes

When Michael, Evan and Aba were considering launching their own business, an IT consulting operation naturally came to mind. A bit of exploring led him to the TeamLogic IT franchise concept, and they saw how it could keep them from reinventing the small-business wheel in many ways.

“Just having all the marketing materials prepared for you, and all the lead generation and early assistance you get, was really helpful,” he says. “All the administrative assistance I received gave me back a lot of time that I could then use on growing the business.”

Many avenues to build client roster

One early win came from landing a “super user” client in the first month of operation, and that large account allowed Michael some time to really evaluate his approach to promoting the TeamLogic IT brand. The marketing and other assists allowed him to begin tackling specific industries in a more deliberate way. For example, one of his techs had a history with local law firms, so he tackled the legal vertical early on. He’s also positioning his TeamLogic IT franchise as a problem-solver, vs. a break-fix operation, which will pay dividends as he looks to increase the percentage of revenue from managed IT services.

“Dealing with a larger customer right away gave us a lot of experience in terms of customer service and being able to deliver on a lot at once,” he says. “I’m finding that a lot of my conversations depend on the clients’ level of experience. Many of them are used to having someone fix their equipment, but they’re not familiar with managed IT,” he explains. “When they realize that they will get all the support, as well as a long-term relationship, they will see that it’s something they really need. A lot of larger companies, with more than 20 users, are looking for that, and so I think we’ll make some inroads.”
