To hear Dwight Blankenship tell it, there was “potential” for him and his wife, Allison, to snag an award at the recently wrapped Owners’ Summit for TeamLogic IT franchise owners. He was right; they did win an award — Franchise of the Year.
“It was a complete shock,” Dwight says. “We had a good year, so thought we might be in the mix for one of the other awards, but certainly not Franchise of the Year. We’re just completely overwhelmed.”
Enthusiastic about the future
Launching his TeamLogic IT franchise in September 2012 was a risk, Dwight says, but one that has paid off. He’d been in the IT business for more than 30 years, so choosing the type of business he would operate wasn’t hard. What TeamLogic IT has allowed him to do is combine his entrepreneurial spirit with an industry whose ins and outs he knows well — and can capitalize on to help clients’ businesses succeed.
“I knew franchising was a better way to go from a success standpoint than just starting up on my own,” he says. “IT is my passion and my experience. TeamLogic IT came in right away to help with branding and marketing, which were not my strong areas, and we also hired a part-time lead development rep who was instrumental in helping us get appointments and build our database of companies. She got more than 3,500 contacts in her three years with us, and then we just began marketing back to those people.”
Growth has been targeted and steady
The Blankenships have built a client base at their TeamLogic IT franchise that covers many industries, especially in the medical and healthcare sector. They also have focused on growing the managed IT services portion of the business.
“We have been able to take a lot of clients from a ‘break-fix’ mentality and migrate them to either managed IT services, or at least a more regular form of service,” Dwight says, “That let us grow, and also build on that base to expand our marketing and awareness programs even further.”
The franchise hit the $1 million revenue milestone for a 12-month period this last year, and Dwight says he wants more of the same going forward.
“The million-dollar mark was a big thing for us, and now we’re trying to nail everything that we did down and build out from there,” he says. “We have our best team yet in place, and I think we’re just getting started.”
