TeamLogic IT Names 2017 Tech Of The Year
Experience and confidence in the business combine to create a powerhouse employee who helps get and keep clients
One of the most-watched awards at the TeamLogic IT franchise owners’ summit is that of Technician of the Year. Why? Because these are the men and women who make the magic for clients all day, every day. This year, those honors went to TeamLogic IT Atlanta’s Robert Scarboro, who in just a few months has made a lasting mark on the business.
“I was a bit surprised, because I’ve only been with TeamLogic IT since February 2017, but was very honored,” Scarboro says. “I was completely unaware that this was headed my way.”
Techs provide key support in client relations
Scarboro may have been surprised, but his boss certainly wasn’t. His impact on the 3-year-old Atlanta franchise has been significant, says Rick Higgins, who adds that it’s more than just being a savvy IT professional.
“He has many years of experience, and has a 10 out of 10 work ethic,” Higgins says. “He’s a great technician, but also really good in account management. Knowing that he is nurturing and growing the existing accounts has allowed me to turn myself loose on getting new business.”
In addition, he says, “It’s amazing how Robert can put clients at ease. We call what we do the ‘pain management’ business sometimes, because often we don’t see someone until they are in pain. He bonds with them very quickly with what I refer to as his ‘bedside manner,’ and he’s been a real blessing to us and our clients. Since he’s come on board we’ve retained all our clients, and have added 35 accounts — more than double what we had. I take him with me to talk to potential clients, and he has helped us get a higher amount of business from those new mid- to large-size projects.”
Client service is an invigorating challenge
Scarboro began his IT career back in 1991, when he was fresh out of the U.S. Navy and began delivery driving for his brother’s computer store in San Diego. Seven years later, he owned the business, and over the years built a career operating in other lines of work. A TeamLogic IT franchise tech position appealed to him, he says, because he likes being on the go, and tackling different challenges in the course of a work day. Sometimes, he says, those challenges can showcase all that a TeamLogic IT franchise team can do.
“I don’t like sitting and looking at four walls,” Scarboro says. “We spend a lot of time on managed IT services and security updates after hours, and that can be interesting. Recently we had a client get hit by ransomware, and we spent a couple of 80-hour weeks recovering their data. They were very alarmed, but in the end, we recovered more than 900,000 files through cloud backups. They had more than 20 years’ worth of work affected, and they only lost three days. They were pretty happy with that.”
