TeamLogic IT Backs IT-Ready Initiative to Boost Tech Careers
Partnership with CompTIA means program funding to ensure a steady pipeline of well-trained IT professionals now and in the future
Well-trained techs are the backbone of every TeamLogic IT franchise, and that’s why the brand is providing major funding to IT-Ready, a program designed to help narrow the IT skills gap in the United States.
IT-Ready is administered by Creating IT Futures, the tech-workforce charity of CompTIA, a leading tech association. TeamLogic IT plans to generate $100,000 in contributions during the next five years, making it the initiative’s leading donor. (The company is donating $50,000 over the five-year period and has set a goal for 100 franchise owners to donate $100 per year in a matching program.)
Nurturing the next generation of IT pros
The IT-Ready program hopes to train and place as many as 1,000 candidates from underrepresented groups every year. These are jobs with competitive salaries and benefits, says Chuck Lennon, TeamLogic IT’s executive vice president of business development, adding that closing the skills gap is vital not just for TeamLogic IT, but for the U.S. IT-tech workforce in general.
“U.S. businesses of all types and sizes face a broadening ‘IT skills gap,’” Lennon says, “as companies transform their operations with digital technologies for cybersecurity, mobility and cloud computing. CompTIA research shows that eight in ten IT and business executives are at least somewhat concerned with the level of technical skills in their organizations. We believe this IT skills gap can — and should — be filled in the short term by candidates from diverse ethnic and racial groups, low-income regions, returning veterans, the long-term unemployed, women and individuals without college degrees.
We know there are people ready, willing and able today to fill the skills gap in our economy, so we want to help make them ‘IT-Ready.’”
Intensive training program yields results
IT-Ready is an eight-week classroom-based tech training program for adults that provides the knowledge and skills needed for a successful IT career, and then connects participants to employers. Thanks to donations from TeamLogic IT franchise owners, as well as other gifts and grants, the classes are free.
“This is a ‘boot camp’ training program that gets people ready for help-desk positions and other work,” Lennon says. “The graduates are having off-the-chart success with getting jobs and doing well in the IT workforce. TeamLogic IT cares about the industry we work in, and we’re very happy to play a role in growing the number of IT professionals whenever and wherever we can.”
