Meet Green Bay TeamLogic IT Franchise Owner Todd Dehn
By targeting multiple business verticals for managed IT services, this franchise owner has been able to grow his book of business
When Todd Dehn talks business, he likes to talk in multiples. For this TeamLogic IT franchise owner, that can mean anything from operating several locations to targeting a group of industries rather than going after just one business sector.
It’s an approach that makes sense, and it has been working since Dehn opened TeamLogic IT franchise locations in Green Bay, Appleton and Oshkosh to serve businesses in those cities and along the Fox Valley Corridor linking them. Now, two years after his June 2015 launch, he is assessing what’s working and planning his next moves.
Growing IT services market appeals to entrepreneurial instinct
“Before opening a TeamLogic IT franchise I was with AT&T, Adelphia, Time Warner and other cable and IT providers, so I knew the industry,” Todd says. “I also was involved in real estate and some other business holdings in Green Bay, so I knew about running a business. What got me interested in TeamLogic IT is my entrepreneurial spirit — I look at a lot of things that come across my desk, most of which get thrown away. The idea of TeamLogic IT kept staying there, and so I did some research, vetted the concept with the corporate team and started thinking about all the businesses that need what TeamLogic IT offers. I thought it had unlimited potential for growth, and so decided to move forward.”
The business has been growing steadily, in large part because he opted to cast a wide net versus going after just one vertical industry sector in the area.
“When I talked to other TeamLogic IT franchise owners before opening, every one said that going after a specific business type or customer had been a problem,” Todd says. “So, I go after them all. So far, we’ve brought in a lot of manufacturing, printing, air control specialists, finance companies, chiropractors, thermal imaging companies, daycares, engineering companies, a healthcare center, plumbers, insurance and law firms, and even a business that services gumball machines. I’m a sales guy, and I’ll talk to anybody — I like a good challenge.”
Focus on managed IT services helps grow business
One way to get his foot in the door has been to talk about managed IT services, and how it can benefit a small business in particular. That, coupled with the expertise and other benefits that come alongside a TeamLogic IT franchise partnership, gets a lot of attention.
“Managed IT has really been my total focus,” Todd says. “We do some break-fix work, but managed IT services are a better deal for my clients and produce good revenue for me. People have become a little more aware of how managed IT works now, compared to where they were a few years ago. It’s easier to sell managed IT services to slightly larger companies who see their IT and tech framework as a part of business operations, but most anyone is interested in the concept and wants to at least hear more.”
That’s some of the advice he now passes along to those entrepreneurs who are looking at their own TeamLogic IT franchises, along with some other tips for success.
“The corporate team is wonderful, especially about connecting groups of owners,” Todd says. “This is a great company, and it’s going to be here for a long time because IT service and support is growing like crazy. That said, getting established and succeeding is a lot of work, so don’t overestimate your abilities and be sure to seek out support.”
