TeamLogic IT Franchisee Interview: Couples in Business
Meet One of TeamLogic IT’s Couples in Business, Dave and Wendy Thompson
Our monthly franchisee spotlight continues with a look at the people behind the TeamLogic IT brand—dedicated owners helping local businesses stay secure, connected, and competitive. This month, we’re excited to feature one of our couples in business, Dave and Wendy Thompson, the husband-and-wife team leading TeamLogic IT locations in San Ramon and Pleasanton, California.
The Thompsons share their experience as TeamLogic IT franchisees and what it’s like to run a business together while managing the demands of a busy family. They also reflect on how franchise ownership has shaped their journey overall.
Q: Share what the first few years of running your TeamLogic IT business was like.
Wendy: It was fun, but tough!
Dave: It’s not an easy thing to do, and there are so many different hats that you have to wear. We started out in a small office and needed to quickly understand what TeamLogic IT represents, what the market is like, and how to sell. I’ve never had issues with presenting myself and effectively selling something, but the operational aspects were something new that I was not familiar with.
What I found really fun and continued to energize me, is incorporating a strategy I learned early in the process called “walking person.” I walked our whole community, dropping off flyers and introducing myself to other businesses. I was amazed at the number and variety of businesses that were out there. My prior work environment was national and international-focused, not local. I had no idea about the number of businesses we had right here in our own local community that could benefit from our services. This actually lowered my anxiety level!
Q: What are your thoughts about the culture within TeamLogic IT?
Dave: I work with a lot of franchise systems, and TeamLogic IT has one of the best cultures I’ve seen for franchisees. The support and encouragement we’ve received from corporate, right from the very beginning, made an immediate impact. They are always available to answer our questions, which was so helpful in the early days when we were very stressed out!
Wendy: We can’t say enough about the community of TeamLogic IT franchise owners, especially in the Bay Area. They are such an incredible group of people! It’s such a benefit to be able to call upon someone in the network who has had a similar stress as us for advice. Many TeamLogic IT franchisees have helped us and given us suggestions on certain scenarios on what to do or what they have learned.
Q: What is it like to run a business together as husband and wife, with a busy family life at the same time?
Wendy: We have three children who were teenagers when we started the business. They were very supportive given all the hours we had to put in, especially in those beginning years, even helping us clean the office every now and then. They were super excited right alongside us. When we got the car wrapped, that was huge!
Dave: What happens after they go to high school? They go to college. We always had aspirations for our children to go to school at the university level, but didn’t know if it was going to happen, just from a financial perspective. Those tuition bills hit hard, and our TeamLogic IT business helped us ensure we could pay those bills.
Owning a business with your life partner is not always easy. Wendy is talkative, and I’m more of the mindset of do it, and it’s over, let’s move on. We are always working on how to combine those two approaches together. We are very respectful with each other, but also know when to back off. It has worked with running the business, and it feels like we’re in this together.
