Q: What led you to invest in TeamLogic IT?

I was in the corporate world for over 20 years where I focused on enterprise IT, with an emphasis on network infrastructure, communications systems, and cyber security. I got to a point where I started to ask myself “Is this it for me?” I wanted to explore what other options were out there, and started looking at all kinds of different franchises.

I looked at a bunch of different verticals, and then ultimately decided that IT is what I know and what I’ve been doing, so the opportunity to become a franchisee with TeamLogic IT seemed like the most appropriate fit.

The territory here in Boca Raton was available, and before we knew it, we were on our way!

Q: Describe your first few months as a new TeamLogic IT franchisee.

It was a lot! There are a lot of boxes that need to be checked, but you methodically just hit them and work down the list. The support and encouragement from the corporate team was helpful during those first months. We had weekly calls to ensure that we were on top of our game and everything was getting tackled in the way it needed to.

Q: Can you share more about the support you received as a new franchisee?

For somebody who’s coming into business ownership for the first time, the support from the corporate team is so important. There was a lot of guidance and hand-holding. From things like getting your EIN situated and opening bank accounts to other big tasks that were part of the startup process, the team led us all along the way.

Q: What has been the biggest challenge you’ve had to overcome in your first year and a half of business?

The biggest challenge for me was the act of “selling.” I had never sold before (or so I thought). It was up to me to figure out ‘How do we sell service?’

I came to the realization that in my previous corporate life I was selling, just in a different dynamic. I was selling technologies and things we needed to do to our executives and our C suite. I needed to transition that form of selling to small businesses. Once I figured that out, I realized that I’ve been selling all along, and it made the process a lot easier!

Q: How impactful is it to learn from other TeamLogic IT owners in the beginning?

Learning from other owners helped me with the selling process. They have already been in the spot I was now in, and their knowledge and advice was super valuable. I look forward to having calls with other owners and bouncing ideas off them. We discuss all aspects of the business, like creating contracts and different types of work for various projects. I leverage the expertise and experience of other TeamLogic IT owners all the time, and they’re all very helpful.

Q: What does culture mean to you, and how do you incorporate it into your TeamLogic IT business?

Culture must be created. On my side of the business here, that’s what we’re doing right out of the gate. As a business owner, you are creating a culture, creating expectations, creating a good workplace. It’s on me to create an environment that I want to be in as an owner, and a place where people want to come work.

Q: TeamLogic IT is a national network of owners. How has that impacted your business?

That is one thing I love about being part of the TeamLogic IT family. You have this huge national network, and you do work together to solve problems.

We’ve won a couple deals specifically because of that. For example, we have a client based in Boca Raton, but they have a remote office across the country. For that client to know that they can be supported at that remote office in the same way that we’re supporting them here locally was a huge selling point. That’s a big winning dynamic!

Q: What are your plans for future growth of your TeamLogic IT location?

The sky’s the limit! My plan is to keep methodically looking at the numbers. For the first year of business, I set a target and adjusted the business plan accordingly, learning so much all along the way. As I’ve been looking ahead to year two, I’m noting what I’ve accomplished so far and what business goals have been reached. For the ones that are not there yet, I’m looking at how we can make them more attainable this next year.

Q: What do you most look forward to when attending the Owners Summit?

The people! We talk on the phone, through Teams, and through other various communication avenues. But I’m so looking forward to seeing these people in person and getting to rub elbows with everybody again! It brings that sense of family dynamic back. Of course, the sessions are great, all the content, and meeting the vendors, too. But for me, it’s being around my other comrades that I’m most excited about.

Q: TeamLogic IT is celebrating its 20th anniversary. What does it mean for you to be invested in a company celebrating 20 years?

I think it’s a great selling point. It shows clients that you’re established. For new business owners like myself, that’s even more important to share with prospective clients. It gives them peace of mind knowing that this company has longevity and a lot of tenured history behind it that has worked for 20 years.
